Cheng-Yao Lin, an assistant professor in Curriculum and Instruction, and Jerry Becker, professor in Curriculum and Instruction, presented a joint paper on the program of the annual meeting of the Mathematical Association of America in Atlanta, Ga., on Jan. 5: Effects of a Computational Skills Workshop on Preservice Teachers.

Four members of the campus community are among 49 recipients of 2005 Artists Fellowship Awards. The Illinois Arts Council bestows the fellowships, which carry $7,000 stipends. Recipients are: Poet David R. Bond, also a technical assistant in the Library Affairs department at Morris Library; musical composer Eric P. Mandat, who writes for and performs on clarinet and is a professor in the School of Music; composer and musician Frank L. Stemper, who pens off- beat music for orchestras and ensembles. He directs the University’s Center for Experimental Music and is director of the School of Music’s graduate studies program where he is a full professor; and Christopher A. Wildrick, assistant professor, who teaches studio classes in the School of Art and Design.

Marcia Zumbahlen, assistant professor in Curriculum and Instruction, participated in the Children's Mental Health Partnership Meeting in Chicago on Jan. 24. She was invited to accompany a delegation from the Illinois Infant Mental Health Association to Springfield later this spring to present the concerns of Southern Illinois professionals related to prevention and treatment services for children's mental health.
