Undergraduate assistantship requests sought

SIUC's financial aid office is accepting undergraduate assistantship position requests for the 2007-08 academic year. This innovative program provides undergraduate students with a paraprofessional employment opportunity. Students work directly with a faculty member or professional level staff person in a position related to their career/academic discipline. A copy of the undergraduate assistantship policy is available electronically.

Positions that were approved for the current school year are not automatically renewed for the 2007-08 school year. Recipients must re-apply and compete for funding. The undergraduate assistantship application and position description form is available on the AIS E-forms Web site. Applications should be sent to Terri Harfst, the academic scholarship coordinator, in the financial aid office, mailcode 4702.

The deadline for departments to submit applications is Friday, Feb. 23. A University committee will review the applications and select positions to be funded. Approved positions will be posted to the financial aid office's Web site in April so qualified students may review the Undergraduate Assistantship opportunities and apply for a position.

Approved departments are encouraged to select their students and complete all hiring paperwork by May 11, - the end of the spring 2007 semester - so that students can begin to work in these positions on Aug. 20, the first day of fall 2007 classes.
